teacher appreciation week

This is my first year but in the past the PTO gave a small gift (pencil, mug, etc...) this year I'd like to pitch something different to the other members and I like the idea of breakfast (muffins, bagels, etc...) but it's not material do you think it'll work or will it be considered "cheesy"?? We have at least 80 teachers plus we add the other staff (janitors, cafetaria workers etc...) so our budget is limited and the principal is not to forthcoming with her help so having a parent watch a class is definately out of the question!

When I found out that we are responsible for coming up with something for Staff Appreciation, I just sat down with the Principal and asked her to tell me about "appreciation gifts" from the past. She was happy to do so and let me know the best and the worst of them. The end result was that we have $300 to provide some type of gift for 70 (yes, not just the teachers, but all aids etc. too). The cute/fun ideas that you are all working so hard on were on the worst list (sorry). We are working on providing a luncheon for all staff on a certain day. We will try to make it special by it's presentation and service. Hopefully, we will be able to get enough Volunteers there to do this during the usual lunch breaks. To do something every day of that week would be almost impossible. Good Luck with your plans.

I just put together a list of suggestions for our Hospitality Chairperson which I've gathered from message boards. (If you do a search using the words "Teacher Appreciation on this site, you'll find a wealth of ideas!) Here goes:

Fill up a small ziploc bag with any combination of the following for a “Teacher’s Survival Kit”, or pick one as a “mailbox quickie”:

Tea Bag: To let you know you’re "tea"-rrific.
Bandaid: For all the aid you provide.
Lifesavers (or donut): to remind you that you're appreciated a "hole" lot.
Penny: so you have "cents" to realize how valuable you are, or 'Good luck when nothing else will work', or 'To be used for decision making'.
Mint: to remind you we're thankful for your commit-"mint."
Tootsie Roll: for the important "roll” you play.
Paper Clip: for keeping things organized.
Crayon: to color your days cheerful and bright.
Rubber Band: to remind you to stay flexible.
Round To It - to inspire you so you can get the little things done in your job.
Toothpick - to prop open your eyes on the 7th night meeting this week.
Bandage - to guard you against negative people and ouchy comments.
Seeds - Thanks for all the great ideas that you have planted to grow and bloom.
Heart - Thanks for caring and giving more than you ever receive.
Eraser: To erase past mistakes and start each day with a clean slate.
Smiley Face – to remind you to smile at people when they aren't so nice to you.
Warm Fuzzy - Represents all those you have touched and who have touched you.
Safety Pin - For holding things together when they start to fall apart.
Rubberband - For stretching your limits, patience, flexibility and endurance.
Lollipop - To help you lick any challenges.
Heart Sticker - Thanks for your ability to reach our and touch other people's lives.
Mint - You're worth a mint!
Tape Measure or Ruler - You measure up as a fantastic leader.
Box of Raisins - Thanks for ‘raisin' our children to a higher level.
Candle - No one can hold a candle to you!
Cake or cupcakes - You take the cake!
Ice Cream Scoop - Here's the scoop - you're doing a wonderful job.
Battery – For that extra burst of energy when needed.
Stick of gum - For sticking with it when times get rough.
Box of juice- To get those creative juices flowing.
Shoelaces decorated with LES logo - Thanks for your ties to LES.
100 Grand Bar - You're worth a million, but the budget would only allow 100 Grand
Book - You're number one in our book.
Fortune Cookie - We are so fortunate to have you as a teacher.
A Hug because sometimes you just need one.
A Kiss to remind you that you are loved.
A Snickers because sometimes you just have to laugh.
An extra ‘‘eyeball’’ because sometimes you need one in the back of your head.

Hope these help, and don't forget to do the search!

Here's one of the poems - that I ran across.
Raisins-Because you always "raise" our spirits
Hot Chocolate-Because you warm our hearts
Rice Crispies Treats-Because you're a treat to work with. Potatoe Stix-Because you're helpful in a crunch. Granola Bars-Because your good to us
Chocolate Chip Cookies-Because your're so so sweet
Cracker Sandwiches-Because you're great inside & out.
I have another somewhere I will try to find it.
I got this one from a Promotional Items Magazine on Teacher Appreciation Week. That they of course can provide the poem with all the goodies in it. For 50 to 99 at 2.95 each. I am trying to debate whether to buy those for our staff members or not. I think that If we purchase all the stuff ourselves it's way more expensive. Even if
you just do a couple of the items it's okay. Not do them all.
Another thing that I'm working on is getting our
vendors that we use throughout the year to see if they will make donations for that week like sponsor a breakfast morning with donuts, juice, fruit. Lifesave Rolls and you can wrap this little saying around it "We Appreciate you A
"Whole" Lot. Hope this helps if you need more let me know and I'll post.

Hello,
I know that these have appeared on this website many times.....however does anyone have a copy of a poem that we can use for teacher appreciation week? I'm looking for one where you put the different candies in a bag and attach a poem such as......Here's a Pay Day because we can all use an extra one of these.

If you could post it here I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

In years past we have asked parents to contribute food for "Snack Day", "Dessert Day", etc. The times we needed volunteers to monitor the classrooms we just asked one parent from each class to come in for that hour. If your volunteer list is limited this may seem a little hopeless, but usually at least one parent per class can volunteer one hour this one time to help out and other parents may be willing to help in the classrooms where you can not get a parent volunteer. Usually room mothers know what parents would most likely help out. Don't forget to have someone cover the phones and front office so the office staff can join in the fun.
