School library

This seems very difficult to me. Without a school Librarian, which it sounds like you do not have, I can't see a viable way to ensure that the books are taken out properly, put back, updated, etc.. Also, how much room do you have for this area?

Maybe the better way is to provide you info on what out Library has...

A full time Librarian who teaches every class in the school (except Kindergarten) every week. She handles the accelerated reading tests and assigns, with the teachers input, reading levels for each student. She actually afixes different stickers to every book to indicate the reading level. A child can not take a book that is too far above their level, or even too far below. The Library is actually the center focus of the school and is pretty large. The quantity of books must be in the thousands, and we purchases new all of the time. The book fairs that we run are often set up in the Library using the 6 8 person tables. Because the Librarian helps us with this we provide a portion of the funds we raise to her in a budget account called the Resource Center. We have an Adopt-a-book chair that a few times a year promotes the program. At Open House we raised approx. $250 from Adopt-a-book, which is used to purchase new books and a sticker is affixed inside the front cover showing that the book was donated from the person who donated. Being a K through 4 school we have full sets of all of the common writers/stories. I.e., Harry Potter, Magic Treehouse, etc.

Last year we purchased a 36" plasma television for the Library to go with the leather furniture that was donated by the local Cardi's furniture. In addition I worked with a group called the Verizon Pioneers, a non-profit organization comprised of retired phone company personel, and acquired a beutiful carput that shows the map of the United States with the names and capitals, which is now part of this area.

Hope this all helps.

Thank you, it is a very good resource especially for starting a library. we already have a library we want to make it better and more in with the technology of today. I am looking for where i can find the latest resources and equipment, and where they can be bought at good prices, like scanners and booksheves, etc.

I did a search of "setting up a new school library" on the internet. Please check out this document I found. It sounds like it addresses a lot of your needs. You may need to install Adobe Acrobat reader it you don't have it. you can get it free from Adobe .

What should a good elementary/middle school library have?

We are a private school with 250 suents and a small library with some bookshelves ith books, no real organized wy of keeping track of the books and who has them.

i want to make the library much better, but need some ideas as to what we need or should have and how much it would cost, so that we know what we should be aiming for.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!
