Am I Wrong?

Out of curiousity, how many total students qualified, out of how many total participating? This sounds like a really cool incentive I'd like to try!

Well, so far it looks like 85 kids are going, with two more days left to turn it in. 85!!! Holy cow! We have nearly 1000 in the school, so that's almost 10 percent of the school. Not to sound greedy or anything, but KA-CHING! This limo idea was really awesome. The company (Signature fundraising) dropped us down from 50% profit, to 40% profit to pay for this thing. But it's looking like the kids' motivation to sell 20 items is more than covering up that 10% difference. A gamble that's paying off, big time. I'll put the final numbers up later. We're in a low income area, so this fundraiser is looking to be one of our best ever.

As far as the logistics of getting 85 kids there and back... ugh, that's mostly up to the fundraising company. I've got to supply the chaperons, but that won't be too hard... who's gonna pass up a limo ride and free lunch?

Thanks everybody for your reassurance. I love my treasurer, she's a real good person at heart, but sometimes she gets too worried about money. I jokingly call her 'anal' all the time, but bottom line, she's an awesome treasurer, and I always let her know that. Positive reinforcement! I just need to get her head out of the books sometimes.

You absolutely did the right thing, and good for you for correcting the treasurer and letting her know who is in charge. Besides if you had denied these children the opportunity to participate in the reward program but had nothing in writing that backed it up, you can bet you would have had some very angry parents who could have made your life pure torture.

One mad treasurer who was wrong in the first place or 10 mad parents calling you and maybe even threatening to sue? Think you made the right decision!

Of course we understand that PTOs are supposed to be inclusive--and if that means stretching an RSVP or serving a piece of pizza from the back...or not slamming shut the door on some kids that have sold 20 items then OF COURSE it is the right thing to do. Just the idea of having those little ones watching that car pull away and know that because mommy or daddy forgot to get their sheets in they couldn't go...well---I think being inclusive here probably makes some strong allies with your parent base who WILL talk about it if you let their children on. If you didn't though, imagine that story circulating through....tell the VP that no one in your group as the right to say NO...not even you--that word is reserved for the board.

the fact that there was no exact deadline to be in the drawing says NO....even if there was you arent talking hundreds of kids and chances are you always get a few stragglers. NO NO NO...stand your ground, if she wants to call them let her!!!
