I thought about signing up for it as well since I am the Box Tops Coordinator at my son's school. However, I didn't want it to interfere with our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair.
How are the book orders coming? I can see how it might compete with Scholastic (our librarian would have kittens) but if it's not run at the same time, I don't think that offering books to children is ever a bad thing.
In January I received an email from Box Tops for Education regarding a new Book Club fundraiser they were starting. I am signed up as my son's school's BT Coordinator, that's how I got the email. The email said that only the first 3,000 schools to sign up would be able to participate. It is run very similar to Scholastic, with just books (no trinkets). Prices ranged from $2.99 to $8.95.
I received my flyers last week and sent them home today. Is anyone else doing this? This is BTs first time with it and I am just looking for some fellow guinea pigs. When reading through the BT forum on their site (not nearly as well organized as this one) I saw that many schools were not allowing the Book Club because their teachers didn't want the competition with Scholastic (which goes right to the individual classroom) or their Book Fairs.
I don't have very high expectations since it is so new, but I do hope to have at least 100 books ordered. We are a K-5 with about 275 students. I will let you all know how it goes when I get the orders turned in next week. If the program is continued by BTs for next year we plan to participate at least one more time, no matter how it goes this time around.
