Box Tops Book Club

Our book orders came in on Wednesday. They were packed great and separated by grade levels. I am delivering them today along with a note letting everyone know that we reached our Box Tops goal for this year (with 6 weeks left in the school year!). I have heard that next year Box Tops will do this year-round. I know that many schools won't even try it, but I hope that more will next year as it becomes more widely available.

I signed up our school also. I thought it would be worth a look-see. But, like others, our teachers won't go for it. They get so many points or credits through the other companies and these "box tops" credits would go to our PTA. I'm afraid mine went to recycling also.

When I picked up the Order Forms last week I was dissapointed that only 10 students (out of 250+) participated. It was mentioned that maybe sending one of each flyer home to each family may have worked better. The flyers were separated by grades K-2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6.

Since this is the first time for this program, we will try it again if Box Tops continues with it next year. As to how to get in touch with Box Tops about this program, each Coordinator was probably sent an email in January letting them know the program was coming. Only the first 3,000 schools to sign up were able to participate so maybe your school never had a chance.

I am surprised that some on here have said that they just tossed their order forms without even giving the program a chance or at least taking it to their Board. Yes, some of the books are more expensive than the Scholastic books, but some are also cheaper. This program gives cash to the PTO in the form of a twice yearly check, not book credits to each individual class. Box Tops Book Club just has books, not trinkets. They are not the same programs.

Why not give a company that has proved their fundraising potential a chance with a program that is similar to what most schools already have? Maybe that was the problem. Some schools probably thought "just another book club". Well, you never know unless you try. I am glad that we tried and that we will continue next year, if it is available.

I signed up for this too but when I received the order forms I was disappointed I thought the books were not a value at all. My family had several of the books that were on the order form small paperback books and they were charging $3.99 for a book I would have only paid .95cnets for. So I never sent ours out I didnt think the choices were good for the money they asked for. All the books were under 3.99 but I didnt think they were worth that at all.

I am curious to hear what other say about it. I know they are only doing this for certain schools and we had to sign up, but I wish I would have seen the book choices and prices first but they didnt offer that.

Our school is participating in this. When it came home I didn't participate. I would rather support the monthly book orders from Scholastic, which supports each individual classroom, than this one. If I were a teacher I wouldn't have been happy about it because it could take away from their classroom sales.
