PTA proposes dues increase

I think it's one more reason why I'm glad we're not a PTA. I realize the PTA may do good things, but I don't think parents who want to join their local parent group should be forced to support a national agenda with which they might not agree. Case in point - the National PTA president last year campaigned for Gore. I voted for Gore, but if I had been a Bush fan, I would have been quite upset had my dues money gone to support Gore.

I can't get parents to join our PTO when it's free, how could I get them to join when I had to charge dues?

I'm surprised by this. It seems like we just went through this. The membership voted so strongly agianst the $1 increase last year and here it is again. I voted against the increase last year because I felt we would lose our PTA if the dues went up that high. I don't see any difference this year.

PTA proposes national dues increase from $1.25 per member (another recent increase that goes in effect in April, 01) to $2.25 per member.

PTA makes its case here: www.pta.org/aconvent/01/dues/index.htm
