With regard to Becky's post, I believe this is the most fundamental of questions. Republicans believe that the power i.e. money should be left in the taxpayers' hands as they would know what best to do with it for themselves. Democrats feel that they can governmentalize a program to solve your needs. I am not saying that everyone who is PTA is a democrat nor every PTO is a republican just that I find it ironic that the President of the PTA is now trotting around our nation with the democratic Presidential canidate and as Becky stated the PTA knows what's best for you, your child and your entire school system. Just my thoughts ...
Wow Becky--I am answering you as the president of a stong PTO that puts our children first, all of our children. We have stability, accountability, and oh yes, devotion to cause. I have no idea how you jumped from insurance needs to where you ended in your post, but hon, get a grip. No one is posting death threats, I beleive you missed something here. And our sleeves have been rolled for quiet some time, and no, never were we accused of being faint of heart. I hope you get a better view of real people who care about all children on this site, other wise==whats your point??
What a tragedy that an indivdual would have so little control as to make a death thread - what a level of intimidation.
The stated goals of the PTA is to raise standard for children everywhere, not just be a fundraiser for a local school. While realizing that all groups must have capital to operate, that is not our main concern. Children, and their parents need, support from all areas. From educational to health, the PTA sees and need and fills it. By banding together in a well organized and organization, we meet these needs.
Stability, consistence, devotion to a cause -
these are the hallmarks of the PTA. Won't you roll up your sleeves and join us? Faint of hear need not apply!
I interviewed Ms. Yoxall for that story and I just want to say that in my opinion her "have a nice life" comment wasn't meant to be rude. I'm sure she could expand on it better than I, but to me she was actually being open.
She is a strong believer in the PTA mission and structure and -- as I heard it -- she thinks the PTA should be even stronger in proudly publicizing that mission and structure. Her comments were not intended as a negative toward PTOs, as far as I could tell.
