My school also still cooks the breakfasts and lunches. I am amazed at all the schools that do not. I thought all schools did. But nutrition habits do start at home.
and they dont teach common sense at school, sadly. you either got it from your parents or you were very lucky to learn it from another mentor. half or more of these posts wouldnt even need to BE HERE if only people used COMMON (or UNcommon) sense.
and back to the topic of food......."Ask your child what he wants for dinner only if he's buying." Fran Lebowitz.(1950 - )
mykidsmom i forgot to include you in my list of blogger einsteins (from another thread), all the helpful / smart minds on this blog site, without agenda, sincerely trying to give out their experiences to help others do better at their school - KUDOS for this thougth of yours: "The million dollar question "when did our educators ...." well, I know our kitchen manager has spent the year becoming educated. The key here is this new program is going to work WE ALL NEED to be educated...to the unresgistered....stop it. (sorry Tim) To become stronger and bette educated is not going to be accomplished with petty ick, but smart problem solving and sharing." HEAR HEAR HEAR!!!!!!!!!!
and, i am packig my bags and moving to YOUR SCHOOL: "our school is one of the only ones to actually cook our school lunches on site. ....snacks are limited and you much have a note from an adult to purchase a snack. They also have in the computer system a red flag that comes up .....and reminds the staff that your child is not allowed -per you- to have that extra order of fries ....or chips or extra sandwich...you get the idea. "
i will be there in 3 months. sign me up, ms. principal!!!!
SO back to the topic...
our school is one of the only ones to actually cook our school lunches on site. Since are self funding, we have an amazing staff that really work hard at giving EVERY child a good lunch.
The pop machine is gone, snacks are limited and you much have a note from an adult to purchase a snack. They also have in the computer system a red flag that comes up (I LOVE THIS FEATURE!!) and reminds the staff that your child is not allowed -per you- to have that extra order of fries (baked or fried) or chips or extra sandwich...you get the idea.
The million dollar question "when did our educators ...." well, I know our kitchen manager has spent the year becoming educated. The key here is this new program is going to work WE ALL NEED to be educated.
to the unresgistered....stop it. (sorry Tim) To become stronger and bette educated is not going to be accomplished with petty ick, but smart problem solving and sharing. I think we all agree this is a time our schools need our support...more than ever.
In the last year I have learned alot and so has our kitchen manager. She is a Mom also and wants the best for ALL of our children. I mean weither you are free and reduced or not. Everyone deserves a good breakfast and lunch.
