The Board of Trustees for our district has voted to change the name of our school after 32 years! How on earth can they do that??? They were naming new schools and - WOW - this announcement came out of nowhere! It seemed like a slap in the face to our new Principal (2 years) b/c it was named after our former Principal. (Very strange, but another story.)
My two biggest concers: financial impact and name recognition. PTO purchased a marquee sign (costing several thousand dollars) which just was installed a couple of months ago. We have spirit shop items, t-shirts, etc. There is so much invested in a name (even beyond $) - the effect of this is so far reaching.
Our District is facing a multi(mulit)-million dollar bond election and I can't get over the lack of consideration about the financial impact this will have on our PTO, our school and our entire district. What on earth were they thinking? I am shocked and outraged at this apparent disregard for our tax dollars at such a sensitive time (one month before our bond election - which faces strong opposition from business owners).
I just keep asking - "How can they change the name of our school?"
This is my first post - so I guess I'm looking to see what others think, if anyone has ever dealt with something like this or if anyone has advice to offer to a pto prez in disbelief.
