You can also tell her that you have gone back to look at the records for those years to see how successful this program was but could not find any to back up her information! That might slow her down.
I think I would feel the same as you, how about"passing the buck" tell her that your general membership/fundraising team decided it was best to do it this way. Tell her in front of EVERYONE that you will take her thoughts into consideration and don't back down. Don't let her railroad you, I also would worry about putting anyone with her to work on this, I think that would only spell trouble. Is she aware of all the trouble you had with the irs and taxes??? if so then there is NO way I would let her money, not a penny and if she can't understand that remember that saying about not pleasing everyone! I'm president of our elementary PTO. Our group had a problem three years ago when it was discovered that our IRS forms had not been filed for the previous three years. This involved two treasurers (one for two years, the other for one). The treasurer (two-year term) claimed he had "lost" the records and had no files to turn over. He was very uncooperative and by the time this was discovered he had taken his kids out of our school and gone to a private school. We had no records other than bank statements, had to recreate all the info, and file three years of taxes. We also had to ask our congressman to help get the IRS to forgive the almost $20,000 in fines they had assessed. We are back on track, have everything under control, and our up-to-date on our taxes. There is some suspicion that the treasurer did not account for all of the money raised, but we have no hard evidence and with no records at all we decided to let it stop.
This family has recently re-enrolled their kids in our school. We had a fundraising meeting this week and the mom showed up (none of us even knew who she was) and started telling all of us that we just don't know how to fundraise - that when her husband was treasurer they raised a lot more money than we do now. Needless to say we were shocked, since we have no idea how much money they made back then - no records, thanks to her husband. No one mentioned anything about the past and we got through the meeing without a major scene.
She wants to restart our old scrip program. We do escrip now, but not paper scrip. We are concerned about the trustworthyness of this family (obviously) but she claims we can make lots of money on paper scrip. We would only allow pre-orders of scrip - no stock on hand. Are there any other ways or safeguards we would need to put in place so that there was no question of a problem with this program? We are all concerned about turning off a willing volunteer, but you can see why we are concerned. Any comments on this situation would be appreciated. Thanks
