Our PTA discussed this past fall about being a Pilot School in our district for school Uniforms. Why? Can't quite remember…..but the idea came up from someone and we talked about it. Eventually, after talking with the Principal and even our Superintendent, we thought to pursue the idea…get feedback from parents in our school. Both of them were for it.
We sent out a survey with four options.
1) I have an interest in discussing the implementation of school uniforms
2) I have no interest in discussing the implementation of school uniforms
3) I have no particular interest but would like more information
4) I have no opinion at all about it
The majority has been FOR discussing having uniforms. Many have written in comments that are very positive. The next largest group were those who are against discussing it - and they wrote in plenty of comments as to why they are against it.
HERE IS MY QUESTION: How many of you go to or know of PUBLIC schools that have school uniforms in K-3rd grade? Or K-12 for that matter?
HERE IS WHAT I DO NOT WANT: I don't want everyone saying how strongly they are against it because of "this, and "that" and this and this" and how bad YOU think it is even though your school does not do it. Start another post slamming how BAD they are, or another post PRAISING them.
I want to hear from those who ARE DOING IT NOW. I'd like to hear from people who have been a part of it and the experience they had at their school. Was their a change in the environment? Did many discipline problems go away? (etc….)
I'd REALLY like to hear from you if you played a part in starting this at your school/district and the steps you went through….surveys…open forum discussions….etc…
We will probably have our first "open forum" at the school one night VERY, very soon.
THANKS!~
