THanks everyone, she had surgery today on her little leg but should be OK. The teacher (whom we are thankful is a long time member of our staff) has been incredible with her classmates.

Yes, the school has had MANY meeting with the 2 cities and county and (esp. LUVMYKIDS) would love the thing that were said and zoning etc. UUGGHHH! I do have another mom on board with me to light this fire!

Now, the single mom of this little girl is asking for our help. Our entire BUDGET is $1500! I am going to talk to our roller rink we have been doing parties at to see if they can help in anyway. (we are schedualed to have a party May 15th and I would like to give the family the proceeds from that party) we also talked about meals....

KC, I couldn't tell you the last time I felt this way......

IANAL, and I am not thrilled with the litigious society that we live in . . . that said . . . which of the three will the parents sue first? That might answer which jurisdiction you go to in order to ask for those signs. At 10K each - what are the medical bills going to be from this child's injuries? Which is money better spent? $10K for sign, or $10K and the bad press from medicals caused by the accident? If it were me, first I would be on my knees thanking God that my child was not hurt worse than she was, and then I would be suing - not for the money - but to ensure that the signs get put up. I would be on a crusade and would not stop until it was done.

This from a mom who got her very first moving vehicle violation EVER when going 22 in a 20 school zone on her way to pick her kids up from that same school the signs were protecting - I deserve it! The local authorities could look at it this way - the police can use it as a money maker. I can tell you that it cost me well over $100 for those 2 miles an hour, the police can recoup the money from the signs by catching fools like me. Alternatively - while as parent organizations we are never lacking for ways to spend the hard earned money of our groups - what about some kind of matching project for fundraising from businesses or maybe even better yet - those who hold public office to serve those very children?

The child will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery, and you will be for doing everything you can to protect those kids.

Hell hath no fury like a mother protecting her children. GO FOR IT, MKM -- don't let this child's injury be for nothing! If the parents are willing, let her become the poster child for the need to get something done.

Oh, boy do I understand. If you go down a few posts in this section to Safety Issue, you'll will see what I've spent many hours working on. My efforts were in the most part for vain, but there are some tips and ideas that may help you with your problem. Good luck.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

Like most of you, our school has been trying to solve the ever trying traffic issue we have. Well, yesterday afternoon a second grader ran onto a busy street that our school is on and was hit by a truck. The truck stopped on the girl's leg breaking it. She is VERY lucky to be alive and is in stable condition tonight at the hospital but I want to throw up. Before the school was built, everyone involved went to the THREE towns that we were going to need to deal with for crosswalks etc. THREE! The county is South, Town "A" to the southwest and Town "B" is to the east, if any accident was to occur at our intersection EVERYONE shows up.
Anyway, there are NO school zone signs anywhere, 10 thousand each and noone wants to foot the bill, to ask for a uniform officer to assist the children across the street seems like a good idea but which jursdiction do you ask first?
This is the third child to be hurt, two were "bumped" inour parking lot, I feel we have the summer to at least have our issue heard.....guys, I just can't bear to hear of one more.....I talk like this is my child, but I feel like she is and I want to be able to do what her mom wants to do.....

Thanks everyone....
