Plus... What kind of day does this set for the kids? If some child was to see anothers mother dressed in her pajamas, don't you think that her child would be teased about the whole thing? This is the future of that child and parent.....child says, "Mom, could you stop here and let me out? I will walk the next two blocks to school."
I make sure I get up and shower and dress before my kids get out of bed. It's the only "private" time I have. I've tried getting ready after they're up and I tend to forget things-one time I had on two different shoes! Plus my hair tends to be quite weird in the morning. Also, people frequently wave me down at the school and I prefer not to scare them!
Last spring I was in a minor fender bender during a snow storm and the gal that "stopped into my van " was wearing a sweatshirt, lightweight jammie pants and Berkenstock sandals. Yes she was a bit cold!
Anyway, it just blows my mind how some of these women just can't take 15 minutes and get dressed!
(With my 5 I'm right at 20 minutes to shower and dress...I've be training)
Yes, I do throw on clothes of some sort before driving the kids to school on days I'm telecommuting and don't necessarily have to "dress". But that's not to say I'm ready to face the world at large. My big rule of thumb is on no hairbrush/no makeup days - keep a low profile, don't get out of the car, don't even make eye contact.
Not that I have anything against the Jammie's and slippers plan... I just know with utmost certainty that the one day I chose to do that, it would be the day I had a flat tire, was in a fender bender, or was taken hostage on prime time TV by rogue bank robbers. One way or another, I'd end up on display for the neighborhood, if not the world.
Last year I had the pleasure of having my husband drive the kids to school in the AM and I picked them up. Well, this year I am driving kids to school and have this question...am I the only one that showers and dresses before leaving my home? Now granted if this was at 7:00 AM I would understand but folks, our school starts at 9:00AM!
What was really bad when without realizing what I was saying one morning I turned to my daughter and said "Wow, those are cute jammie pants and slippers she is wearing." My daughter replied "Oh that's Amber's mom, do you want me to ask her where she got them!" "NO!!"
I don't want to change the world or bring this to a PTO meeting (I have thought about it to lighten things up some) but just needed to vent. Call me Andy Rooney if you will- I'm much prettier though!
