Hello everyone. I have always answered any question that my children have asked. I start with a little information and continue to give them more as long as they keep asking. I would much rather my child hear the truth from me than to hear something that might be misleading or construed from someone else. Yes, I know the "bad guys" are caught, but our children still need to know everything is ok. Two books that may be useful is "September 13th" and "What's Heaven?" The first book is a wonderful story written and illustrated by elementary students. Maria Shriver wrote "What's Heaven?" You might want to read through these alone before sharing them with your children. God bless us all!
To lighten the mood a bit - our family has always been very sports oriented, baseball being # 1 in our lives as far as sports is concerned. We are following the world series closely, and the family is split between the Angels and the Giants. The kids have also been a bit anxious as my brother is a principal in a Virginia-DC area school, and we are planning a trip there over Thanksgiving. When I woke my kids the morning after the "bad guys" were caught, I said to them "they got the bad guys". My son, a Giants fan, assumed that I meant the Angels won the game the night before.
You tell them it's over. You tell them you love them and when you get down on your knees tonight, you Thank God. Tomorrow, you send Chief Moose flowers and a Thank You letter. I know that is what I'm doing.
Hug Your Children and Sleep Well Tonight,
Elizabeth
