Good for you, and good answer to those who did not like it. My answer to people who have problems with how this are run is "Did you sign your name to the bottom line?"
If people are helping out, I don't want to hear about it, hopefully someone will wake up and do their part.
Since we are on a roll, the thing I hate the most is I am to busy to help. Well, I have a full time job myself and I help, everyone is busy these days and just comes down to how bad people want to help and how much they really care.
Thank you for upholding your word! We too here in Goodyear Arizona have come to the realization that world will not end if each program is not pulled off. We have cancelled also because of lack 'o volunteers. (and the world really didn't end--I promise!!) It has been so freeing to realize this. We put it out there, if it isn't 'excepted' (which I have come to realize means somebody other than the board making it happen) it DOES NOT HAPPEN. Keep up the good work!! (Or do I mean lack of it?) And oh--don't give 5 reasons why you can't so it yurself--realize you signed up as a board member to manage an organization, not to be the work force!(delegate delegate delegate) have a great pop free day!!!
Have you thought about changing the time for the popcorn. I have been in two different schools where they did popcorn. One where we started before school and gave to a grade a day. First grade on Monday, Second on Tuesday and so on. We did this once a month. And the second school we had a 6th grade teacher and his students do it. They sold it for 25 cents at the end of the day.
Just a thought. Don't feel bad about having to cancel an event.
Our PTO sponsors a weekly popcorn sale that the kids love. We have asked at every meeting and in every newsletter for volunteers to help us. Since becoming president I have told everyone that if we do not have enough volunteers to run a function that I would cancel it. Well, this past week I had to "put my money where my mouth is" and cancel the popcorn sale. I sent home a letter explaining to parents that we regret having to cancel this much loved sale but until we get volunteers we will not have it. The flack has been outrageous...my response to the complainers is ...SO...can I put you down as a regular volunteer? Of course they give a million reasons why they can't and I tell them that it is unfortunate that all of us parents are so busy these days. I feel real bad about having to cancel this but our board of officers is being run ragged trying to make up the slack for parents who always send in money for their kids to buy the stuff but never stay to help. I truly hope that when the parents see that we will not kill ourselves for the pto that they will start to help more. Oh the reason the officers can't do it anymore is: Pres (me) knee surgery now PT three times a week, VP (hysterectomy, school, job), Treasurer (nasty divorce), Secretary (full time job). SO we do understand that it is hard to volunteer but we always seem to find a way until now. My question is have any of you cancelled events due to lack of volunteers??
