How do you deal with difficult board members

I would recommend that you, as President, get on the bank account. Once you have check writing abilities you should be able to start handling the responsibilities as well. But you should always inform her of any transactions. Another option would be the Asst. Treasurer. If you have one, great, if not I would recommend electing one. Get her on the checking account as well, and have her act, per the Byalws, in the absent of the Treasurer. If things are as you explain this Asst. treasurer will end up filling the role.

I'm with jewel, it's time to get your board together and remove this person from office. If your bylaws don't cover removing an officer for failure to perform duties, then follow jewel's advice about utilizing Robert's Rules of Order.

One year when I served as President of our elementary group, I made some deposits for my Treasurer. We were both working outside the home and had incredibly busy schedules, so we worked together to make sure that money got put in the bank as quickly as possible and didn't lie around in someone's house for an extended period. If you are on the account you should be able to have the bank look up the account number for you and do a counter deposit slip. Then you can deposit that money you have at home.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

If she, or any board member, refuses to fulfill their obligations, they are subject to being removed from the board (see Robert's for the section on investigating behavior of this nature in order to make a motion of removal). Character assassination and inability to work productively with others just adds more reason to take this route -- especially since she refuses to meet to discuss her behavior in hopes of reaching a solution and because she refuses to attend meetings. Get her out of there.

Hello Everyone,
This is my first year as president and I am trying to bring some new things to my child's school. For years, we have been doing alot of traditional things that have bored the parents. I was so excited about this year. I love doing PTO work. I feel that as long as my children is at the school, I will be involved. My problem is with the treasurer of the group. She is not cooperating this year. I have even ask her to come to a meeting with me and the principal so we can talk things out, so we can make this year a great year. She refused. She said she is grown and can do what she wants. I have had to beg her to come to the meetings. I am just at my whits in. We had a fundraiser and we did not get good participation. We needed 15 orders in order to get 50% of our proceeds. Well, the vice-president and I took up the remaining money and tried to receipt what she could. The thing is the money was short. So I told her and she hit the roof. I asked her to come and help us. The money is not short by alot of money. We are talking about tens of dollars, since then the vice-president and I have been the object of character assainations through email. She has basically accused us of stealing money. I do not steal money. I have money for tshirts and pto dues from August that she has not gotten or ask me for. I ask her about that and she hits the roof again. Please someone tell me what to do. I told her up front about the shortage of the fundraiser. She has a masters in accounting and she acts like she can't even help us with the receipt book or help with where we went wrong with the money. I am stressed and tired. Should I go to my bylaws and see what my rights are as a president? Please someone respond to this message.
