Jstone...If you give me your email address I will email it to you. It is quite a long article and it basically talks with teachers & principals all over the country who have a harder time dealing with the parents then the kids. They talk about their experiences with things like parents who don't want you to reprimand or punish their kids for anything they do, yet want you to make sure they get into Harvard. Then they discuss how many parents are now in the schools as volunteers hoovering over their kids. Obviously most of the examples they are talking about are the extreme parents. It deals with how school has changed over the years along with the way parents want their kids handled and how school doors are more open to parents they they use to be years ago. However, I know we have some of these types of parents in our school and I am sure every school has them.
SFilak...thanks for the info...I did not realize when I originally posted that only AOL members could read the article. Hopefully it will get archived so everyone can read it.
Tim...Yes I suppose copyright infringement would be an issue and then they would hit you with the wet noodle amongst other things! Maybe we should contact Time and have them do a reverese article and let parents talk about what they hate about teachers! As for the title yeah it was over the top, but it sure does get your attention and make you want to see what they are saying!
Yeah -- for copyright reasons -- we shouldn't post it here. Wish we could.
I read it Sunday. Very interesting piece. The headline was over-the-top, but the article was OK. I wish the writer had gone one notch further (maybe a sidebar or something) to talk about the great parents and how effective parent groups can create a really healthy outlet for increasing the "right" kind of involvement.
Alas...
Tim
Related note: Newsweek's cover is on "the myth of the perfect mommy." Good week to be on vacation looking for beach reading. I thought the cover piece was kind of lousy, but i loved Anna Quindlen's companion column. Worth a read.
Scottmom....I just emailed it to you. I sent it 2 pages it a time. The article is 6 pages long. If it was shorter I would post it here, but I fear Tim will hit me with a wet noodle if I post something that long. Maybe Tim can find a way to post it in the News Blog section??????
SHC...yes it is a good article and you will laugh because I am sure we all have parents within all of our schools who do some of these things.
