Unacceptable behavior??

19 years 11 months ago #65575 by ScottMom#1
If she is there everyday with that attidute, it suprises me that she hasn't been asked to leave yet. I do not understand why there is ever a reason to put your hands on someone else's child. Did anyone else see her do this and are they willing to take a stand against this behavior?

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

You did the right thing as far as I'm concerned. Let someone with authority speak to her. It might sink in better. Maybe she was having a bad day, who knows, but there is no need to take it out on the kids.

OK, this has been really bothering me all night. Yesterday I attended a Christmas party for my daughter's class (actually it was 3 classes together). It was really nice with the exception of one parent/volunteer.

She was sooooo mean to some of the students in her son's class that I found it unacceptable. While some of the children were reading their letters to santa, a couple of kidergartners were talking amoung themselves and not listening. They were not loud or disrupting, just whispering. She went up behind them and grabbed them under the arms and pulled them to the back of the room. Which I thought was totally out of line. If they were bothering her that much, she should have just tapped them on the shoulder and shsssed them. Then when we were making hotcoco, a couple of the kids were saying how much they love expecially with marshmellows. They were not being loud or anything, just talking in normal voices and were waiting in line. She very nastly said to them that if they don't be quiet, they were not going to get any. The hurt looks on their faces almost made me cry. I certainly don't talk to my children like that and would never talk to someone elses in that way. And at the santa shop this year, she was volunteering and was hollering at the kids and talking down to them.

Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well last night thinking that if she treated my child that way, I would be right down to the principals office in a heart beat. So this morning before work when I dropped my daughter off at school, I went and spoke to the Asst. Principal. She was very understanding and concerned about this behavior and said that she would talk to the principal and the would address the issue.

The school administration is very friendly and works well with the PTO so I did not feel any problems addressing my concerns with them. But should I have handled it differently? Talk to the mother or teacher first?

Oh, and by the way, she is at the school everyday all day long as she has 2 kids there. I work fulltime and can only make there occassionally, although I do have stuff sent home that I can do for the class.
