honoring a teacher

We lost a teacher to a heart attack during Christmas break just a little over 3 years ago. The school was such a huge part of her life(29 years) so her family established memorials for the library and new courtyard. We gave money to the memorial and we also had a photo of her framed and plaques made to go on it for the library. It's special to walk in there and see her smiling face and know that even now through her memorial she is still touching the lives of children. I would suggest number one to give to any memorial the family has established. Typically memorials are for organizations or causes that were near and dear to the heart of the deceased. If you want to do something within the school, ask her co-workers. They knew her best and could probably tell you what would have been special to her.

Hi Bertha! I am sorry to hear about this loss, it is very sad. C. Brooks mentioned planting a tree with a plaque...While we have not had a teacher die, we have had 2 children that have died in the past few years. We planted trees for both of them on the front lawn with plaques at the base of the trees.

This happened at the elementary across the county last year. She died at school. I think they did something like a tree in honor. You could even buy a plaque with her name on it to put at school. I am so sorry for your loss.

This is very sad. Our principle died last year. I feel that you should do what you think is comfortable for your group. We built a pond and put fish in it for the kids to feed in the mornings. We also have a scrap book with pictures, poems, notes from the kids to him(cause we all know he's in heaven and can read thru envelopes(smile)) Just talk about it and an idea will come to you.

I just got back from vacation only to find about forty messages on my machine informing me that one of our teachers died this past weekend. Very unexpectantly. This has never happened in our school or district for that matter.

Since we are a PTA my question goes out to all of you-- As a PTA what are you allowed to do to honor a teacher? Can we buy something big and donate it in her name to the school, plant a tree, anything at all? HELP!!!
