Teacher Appreciation Week

20 years 1 month ago #64906 by ScottMom#1
On Monday we do a cinnamon roll breakfast, Tuesday through Thrusday we do small gifts usually from oriental trading and try not to spend more than $1/item, and Friday we supply sandwich trays. In the past, the PTO has spent up to $1000 doing a Teacher Appreciation Week but we include every staff member. The PTO is not allowed to interupt any classroom time so we can't ask students to do thing and there is a dress code comittee that arranges for those sorts of things so this is what seems to fit our school.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

We do a whole week which includes a lunch and gifts, but we also make the kids do something every day. Here are some examples...

Monday...Crazy about teacher day- and the kids get to have a crazy dress day and they wear crazy outfits to school.

Tuesday...Write a letter to your teacher giving them the top 10 things you like about them.

Wednesday...hats off to teacher day...and all the kids wear hats to school.

Thursday...write your teacher a note and tell them why you are thankful for them.

Friday...Teachers help build dreams...and the kids all wear pajamas to school.

The kids love doing the dress up days and the teachers all follow along and wear crazy clothes, hats, & pajamas too.

I know a lot of schools do crazy dress day or a pajama days already, and this is just a neat way to kill two birds with one stone and make it mean something more then just a day to wear something out of the norm to school.

We served lunch one day and breakfast/snacks another day. We also had a wonderful parent who volunteered her massage services-she brought in her chair and gave any staff member who wanted it a massage. They LOVED this one!

Kendra-
How many teachers do you have? Do you get for your entire staff? Between both our schools we have a staff of approximately 70 which includes, secretaries, custodial, aides, principals. As I stated in a previous post, we give each a gift certficate for lunch at a local deli. They like it because they can go at their leisure. Since we encompass 3 buildings in all it is difficult to get everyone in on something on one day. Our H SA is for both our schools which are a k-3 and a 4-8 grade set up. (Don't ask... we are almost a "Little House on the Prarie" set up amongst a bunch of Bigger districts in NJ.LOL! :D

In the past years, ( I read through all the past notes going back about 8 or more years) only teachers and secretaries were given something. But in order to not have hurt feelings we have decided to make it a staff appreciation day and for the last 4 or so years it has worked well for us. It eliminates, Secretary's Day, Nurses Day, etc... the list goes on and on.

Hi I'm new to P.T.O - this was my first year doing teacher appreciation week. Our P.T.O. does something for the teachers daily through out the week. For example on Monday we purchase Donuts for the Teachers and Teacher's aides and we also had two door prizes for them. On Tuesday we supplied a meat and cheese tray and had two door prizes. On Wednesday we supplied a veggie tray and two door prizes. Thursday we gave the teachers and aides flowers and they had a chance to win one of two door prizes. Friday we gave the teachers and staff candy bars. We had two door prizes also on friday. Most of our door prizes were donated by local buisnesses (this way we could save on funds). We did buy town gift bucks for a door prize and we also purchased a town gift bucks for the teacher rep. I think our total cost for the week was $283.90 it was a great week and the teacher's seemed to like it!
