As the PTO Pres. this year, the Board and I have experienced difficulty in working with the Principal. The problems we are faced with is that she blatantly lies to us (factually proven). She has also repeatedly tried to have the PTO pay for items which are strictly outside the scope of our mission statement - furniture for the newly remodeled entry, decorative items for the office, per diems for teacher conferences, dinners for visiting speakers (expensive one's). Some of those items are required to be paid for out of the school's budget, furniture items were out of the District's budget for the remodel(and quite nice). When there is a need that should be requested from the District she refuses to go to them and ask for it. Her theory is that it draws attention to the school and appears as though we "have needs". She also refuses to let the PTO go to the District to ask for help because she says "she'll probably get in trouble for not handling the situation (and parents)". The Superintendant discovered one of her lies and I believe is becoming aware that she is a lame duck. In addition, she has verbally threatened her teachers into not talking to PTO about any classroom needs. My question is this, if we see school funds being mishandled and teacher harassment, do we go to the District and turn over the information that we have about her? Or do we just leave it up to the District to discover and handle on their own. She was on probation a few years ago for improper handling of a standardized test. I am all to aware of the wrath you can incur when you go up against a Principal, but I am torn between what I see is abuse of funds which should be going to enrich the education of our children vs. window dressing.
