Officer Difficulties

KC and Mad I agree with you both. I have a hard time keeping volunteers out of staff luncheons. (One self proclaimed "volunteer" who I never see do anything imparticular). I don't feel comfortable eating food for the staff even if I'm subbing that day. But what really takes the cake (no pun intended)is sneaking food to your children while other children get to watch without the same opportunity to get any goodies. I am sure that cheesecake looked better than anything on their plate. I would've said something to her.

I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me or not, MadAsH. I feel like we've got two different issues going on here.
  • Cheesecake was eaten before the staff had dined, on the assumption there would be leftovers, and there was not enough to go around.
  • Cheesecake from the staff luncheon was taken into the student lunchroom for specific students, while all others were excluded from the treat.

Suppose there had been enough for leftovers. And suppose it had been after all staff had dined so there was no chance of creating a shortage. Taking that into the lunchroom would still be unfair to all the other students in the school.

But the first issue remains. All the workers partaking of cheesecake contributed to the shortage. It also created a situation where one worker thought there would be no harm to take some to her children. In reality, it harmed the situation at the staff luncheon AND in the student lunchroom. But the staff luncheon problem lies at the feet of everybody who ate cheesecake early.

So my point was that the officer in question made two mistakes on her own: took the extra piece, took it into the lunchroom. But all the workers made a mistake together: ate the cheesecake.

It shouldn't matter if there is "plenty", they should have at least waited until everyone else was finished before getting some. If it was just the initial first few, that was probably NOT a problem, but the problem is when it was given to the children instead of waiting for the others to get them. They could have offered it to the children or parents later.

Okay, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here for just a moment. The three of you all each ate a piece of cheescake. After somebody declared that there was plenty, and you all demonstrated that there was plenty, she took an additional piece to share with her children. Then there was none for the lunch ladies, when there should have been one piece left? No, there was none for the lunch ladies when there should have been FOUR pieces left.

I'm not saying that it was right or fair for her children alone to get the "leftovers". But isn't there a chance here that all three of you share some of the blame?

I totally agree with MADASH. Your secretary sounds like she’s out for herself and needs to face reality that she volunteered to be the secretary of the PTM and needs to put the mission and goals of your organization before her personal and family needs. Let her resign if that’s what she wants – you all have to work as a team with the same goals. Beside if she can’t tell the truth or fess up to something this silly (cheesecake) then how much integrity does she have? Remember integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is around : - )

Let her resign. You don't neeed officers around like her. We have a staff member (an evening custodian) who does this in our school. ON the days when we have a special staff luncheon, she'll purposely come in early and wrap up food to take home to her family and usually someone ends up without. It's not fair to those who should get it but don't because of other inconsiderate people. Besides, what kind of message is your group sending if it continues???
