Yes--that is nuts! The purpose of the fundraisers are to hold events for all children w/in school regardless of there economic level. The PTO doesn't just do field trips but enrichment programs, rif books etc. These are things some childrent won't get at home. So will not be brought to a museam unless school brings them. etc. I suggest you start heavily looking into scrip (alternative fundraiser) and search for corporate sponsers!

Our district is going through a lot of financial changes including taxes going up, the closing of two schools and downsizing staff. Now on top of this, I was told today that at the last two school board district meetings they have tried to do away with fundraising in the schools. This includes all fundraising major and minor. I'm concerned about it and it saddens me deeply. Many of the activities in our school is funded by the PTO and the school funds would not allow this to happen. We also were told that there would be no more field trips if the district also does away with fundraising. What would our purpose be if we lost all rights to fundraise? Isn't the idea of PTO to help the children and to help get teachers and administrators the extras to better our children? If it wasn't for that, what would we do? We already have volunteers who put in a lot of time and I would be afraid some of that may be lost if something like this goes through. I would really like some input incase I decide to go to the next school board district meeting.
