Principal Barriers &Officers switching positions

sounds like first and formost youve got to all get along and play nice.
it doesnt matter whats in the bylaws, if you all arent on the same page and geting along and sharing info and using the communicaiton mode you are supposed to, nothing will fix the problems.

open honest communicaiton, is the key to a well functioning group. if some are doing things behind others back, who knows what else they are doing behind your back.

invite her for a coffee and talk and THEN pull out the bylaws and make sure everyone knows whats in them, and that they have to adhere to them. good luck, sounds like a bit of politics going on. thats always a tough one.

As Silver says, review your bylaws. Were elections held to vote these parents into their respective positions? If so, then I would say that another vote by the membership(maybe not a full blown election)needs to occur in order for these folks to switch their spots around. Then if they want to share some of the duties, I would spell that breakdown out in writing so EVERYONE is on the same page as to who is responsible for what.

I would have to advise you to review your bylaws with regard to switching positions and the responsibilities of each position.
It sounds as if you are being out numbered in many situations and you are possibly being taken advantage of. Everyone is busy and once this is realized perhaps others will being to pull their weight. My suggestion would be a little tuff love. We all want our organizations to succed however success is only achieved when all members are willing to do their part. Stop doing more than your part. Unfortunately it may take an event to be cancelled etc before others realize you can not (and shouldn't) be responsible for their duties. Ensure the audit is in place for the end of the year and perhaps have a set of written provisions as to what will be required at the audit.

I have officers that were elected for a certain position and now they want to switch their positions.
Reason is because they don't have time to do their job and or they don't want to take on the responsibility of their position.
I been doing ALL the treasurer's work due to after she was elected, she stated she didn't want to take the $ and checkbook and for me to do so. My secretary won't answer or respond to my e-mails and when I bump into her on campus, she says she's to busy with school and work that's why she did pick-up or reply. Any duty given to either of them, that they took on responsibility for, never got done and landed on my lap to do last minute.
We had an officers meeting and I brought everything to the treasurer due to she finally said she'll do her job because I was blunt to her about her position. At that meeting the treasurer, secretary and vice president decided they were going to switch positions. Switching is one way they feel they can still have the title but don't have to do much/or any work. Example: Treasurer wants to be Vice President because she stated she "only has to fill in when the President is not present and that will never happen". She was not comfortable with the money when I said will have an audit committee at the end of the year. The Vice President took over the money because she was a banker but wants to deposit all money together and not write quanity/amount on deposit slips or use any proper PTO Forms.
I'm outvoted 3 to 1.

We are are becoming a non-profit incorporated PTO and in the past the administrators say there was a PTO but found out when elected that legally there wasn't one. The past PTO Officers and the administrators lied to the parents and wouldn't say where the $ went or how much was raised.

My fellow officers feel they can switch beacuse of what the past officers did. I told them we are running a legal PTO in all aspects of the meaning and there has to be a motion on the switching. They feel since they asked an administrator it's okay to do so.

My secretary wants the title but doesn't want to help at all. She may once in a while translate a flyer/letter if she has time. When I confronted her and told her if she can't do her job it's okay to back down. She can still help as a member when she can. She said "That would be better for me. Will you tell XXXXXXX and XXXXX. I replied"Yes". Next time saw her, she said she didn't resign. The treasurer was mad that she was backing down so they both confronted me saying she didn't resign and she wouldn't do it with out tell me(treasurer). The treasurer who wants to be Vice President wants to do the secretary positon, so the secretary officer can keep her title but will do the minutes for one meeting but not the other. Will not compose any flyers/letters. Vice President wants to be treasurer but I can't get what I need untill she's ready to do so (last minute). She's wants to do whatever any administrator says even though we had NO Approval from the Pricipal. Also we have a PTO e-mail address but she corresponses to the Pricipal about PTO business behind my back on her own personal e-mail address. PTO e-mail is available to ALL officers.

I'm still waiting since the third week of August for an Executive Board Meeting with the Principal. No response or she's busy and finally get a day/time and she cancels but informs the one officer's private e-mail instead of informing the PTO e-mail where all officers can receive the message.

What's you advice/solution on switching positions and having officers that are on the board but aren't willing/able to do anything?

Also what's your advice/solution on the Principal not giving us an Executive Board meeting or even any approval on fundraisers. She declined every fundraiser we threw at her example: holiday store, dances, dress down day, selling candy bars.

Our bylaws have a Section: Vacant Positions witch states that all positions up for elections except if the president position is open, the vice president automatically takes over that position.
