I;m not really understanding your voting process. Who has your checkbook? Does the treasurer? Why does the principal have that account? If you voted that nite at the meeting the check should have been sent to where the membership approved. The teachers who attended the meeting have only one vote each I presume they can not overrule the majority-otherwise why are you voting to begin with? You need to stand firm on what will happen once an issue is voted on and follow through with the results. If you offer the money to them and they refuse the money for whatever reason then the offer is gone-simple and easy-your making your job way to hard if you have to redo everything at every meeting.

Like GaMom says, special ed is governed by national laws, not just simply at the whim of the school. Make yourself an expert. Go to this site... www.wrightslaw.com , subscribe to their newsletter and get the book, From Emotions to Advocacy available there and read it cover to cover. On this site there is a list of child advocacy yellow pages based upon states. Look up your state, find a lawyer and call them. Send a certified return receipt letter to the school principal, child study team etc informing them that you have secured representation and will advise meeting date. Learn the legalese and use it. Dig in your heels and don't back down.
It's time to get mad and stay mad. This is no longer about the pettiness of your teachers and principal, it's about the well being and safety and least restrictive school environment for your child.
Stay strong and if you need encouragement, we are all here in cyberspace for moral support.

The fact that your child is special ed puts you in a very different position. Regardless of his disability, he is covered by so many laws that it would blow your mind. It does not matter if it is a sub or a regular teacher who denied him access to the bathroom. It is the school's responsibility to find subs who are knowledgeable and responsible. ESPECIALLY FOR SPED CLASSESS!!!! Most sped classess have a parapro, do you? If so, where was she? If he continues to be harrassed, make sure you do some research on the laws and have a copy of his IEP. Most will state information such as homework and amount.
These teachers sound very vindictive and the principal sounds like a loser. They can not be allowed, as models for our children, to get away with this type of behavior. Start getting information on everything from your bylaws to sped laws. You may not be very popular with the school, but what is more important....being popular or fighting for the children.

I am sure he didnt get to go to the bathroom. I called his teacher at home and she informed me they had a sub. in her room. I need to see the principal in the morning. I hope that you guys have a much better school than I have. My school in this county is the only one and we cant leave the county unless the BOE says we can..Thank you all for your help. I will make sure my child gets the education he deserves without prejugdice.

If you are absolutely sure that your child was not allowed to go to the bathroom (ALL DAY!) in school because of the disagreement between the PTO and the teachers, you have a very serious problem at your school.

How can an elementary teacher be vindictive like that?

If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>
