I think most parents and children would be happy to wash their hands and do what it takes to keep a peanut allergy child safe and alive, but just because someone disagrees with your point of view does not make them ignorant.

nope - too hot here in SoCal ;)

And your correct you cant make johnny wash his hands- only educate and suggest (unless it become a sanitary health hazard)- It is a good idea- (hygene is important) - to wash but be careful of some the hand sanitizers (no H2O needed type) some keep in more germs than they actually kill

Sanitary health (Public health- ie washing hands) is toatly different (than 1 persons health- ie PB&J)

The day they outlaw PB&J is the day I call the Darkside (ACLU) and give 'em $$$ to file my claim

OK i am back anywya, to spread a litle lightness on this topic,,,,,yesterday my kid comes home and says, HEY my teacher told xzy to WASH her hands before passing out papers (xyz was the 'papergirl' for the day) to all her classmates so 'they dont get your germs'! (xyz had visited the nurse earlier in the day cuz she wasnt feeling well).

i thought WOW now thats the first time i heard of that one from a teacher. nice to get thier support on the handwashing awareness front....we all know the number ONE way to prevent TONS of prventable illnesses is HANDWASHING.

ok off my soapbox on handsanitizing (pun intended).

I'm NOT saying don't bring in peanut butter. We have "peanut free" class rooms. I'm saying try not to be so iggnorant. Do you teach your child to wash their hands after eating pb&j. Is that so very hard for someone to do. That alone could save a life. I'm sorry johnny only eats peanut butter. Im not saying he can't have it. If I as a mom of a child with allergies is willing to teach other parents & children, send home information on how to keep their child happy & my child safe does that make me pushy? Hey shawn Do you wear a wool sweater and hug your wife? because its your right to wear it? and Sanitizers aren't such a bad idea after lunch. Oh!! im sorry will that violate johnnys rights to make him do that?

My apologies, beignets! I didn't mean to include you in my comment about ignorance. It was an unfortunate coincidence. I was reacting to Denise's comment

Evryone should learn and deal with it.

It's the second time today that someone on these boards has assumed that ignorance is the only possible reason someone could disagree with them. It's an arrogant approach to take in any discussion and I guess it was starting to wear thin.

I agree wholeheartedly that allergies are emerging more quickly than ever, that they are indeed deadly and education is important. The letter that your administrators sent out was the responsible thing to do and I thank you for sharing a good example with us.
