It's not illegal by city or state rules, but by not following your bylaws (charter), if you are a federally or state recognized corporation (non-profit or otherwise), it is almost certainly illegal (I'm not a lawyer though).

Unfortunately, most PTO's are small potatoes, and thus any legal proceeding are probably not cost effective for any party (including the IRS).

what? - no one should be so naive as to think one can believe anything anywhere without first hearing the other side. it goes without saying.at least YOU have the common sense to think before you judge. i applaud you. wish you were on our PTO leadership team!

pardon me for not including the fact that all of this is "interperative", in all of these boards we are hearing one sided information. i can not and do not believe half of the stuff i read. would you not just once like to hear the other side. i believe at times you could be describing my PTA and i assure you decissions are made for good reasons. i say try on the other persons shoes before you condem and degrade others. it is not easy being the bad guy making the right decision. unless you have been a board member, don't criticize. who on earth would PTA bash on a PTO Today web site. i'm not getting it.

what? - i have been a victim of bullying by the PTO and i have registered letter from them documenting such. they removed me from the PTO without ever talking to me. just met in a small group (no quorum) and listened to hearsay, rumor and gossip about me, and decided they didnt want me in their group/clique. that is classic bullying behavior: rumors, gossip, exclusion, shunning, etc...its called relational bullying, as opposed to verbal or physical bullying. its in all the books. i dont make this stuff up.

If you are following your beliefs, that does not make you a bully.

But not representing the will of the majority is seldom right (although there are exceptions).

But not following the bylaws laid down by the PTA/PTO is not just bullying, it's probably illegal and just plain WRONG! Not allowing a person their chance to speak on a subject, or trying to keep a position that is not eternally yours are examples of bullying and control.

And let's not even get into illegal use of funds! (Which apparently happens an awful lot).
