WE ARE GETTING OUR PRICIPALS AND TECHERS THROWS FOR CHRISTMAS. IN OUR SCHOOL COLORS AND NAME ON IT. THAT MIGHT BE SOMETHING FOR HIM. WE HAVE ALSO GIVING TEACHERS AND PRINCPAL GIFT CERFTICATE TO LIKE OUT BACK RED LOBSTER. THEY REALLY LIKE THAT. THAT SOME IDEALS THAT WE HAVE DONE OUR PRICPAL LOVED IT AND TEACHERS TO
We, too, had a great principal. One summer vacation we went out east tovisit my family & I bought him an "I Love NY" tie & our wonderful secretary an " I love NY" paper weight. They both loved their souviniers (sp?) & the principal wore that tie alot. How about a gift cert. to a nice restraurant for him & his wife?Our pto did this,too. I know it was appreciated. Find out what he likes & go from there. If he golfs, a golf pass at his fav. golf club. Hope this gives you some ideas.
Our school has the GREATEST principal. He's is very hands on, very flexible and open to new ideas and yet is not controlling. Does anyone have any GREAT ideas on a unique gift to get the GREATEST PRINCIPAL??
I understand that you are working within the rules set for you, but a bank will gladly open a checking account for your PTO as long as you obtain your own tax id # (download form SS-4 from www.irs.gov/forms,
fill it out, then call the IRS and get your number over the phone). The bank does not require the 501c3. That can come later.
In our PTO, for example, the principal is a member of our Executive Board, with one vote like the other officers. Mo veto power. Our annual budget includes three accounts over which the principal has control. Once our members apporve the budget in September, the PTO does not approve each individual spending request from those accounts. Those are his to spend (educational materials, building extras, principal's discretionary fund). We give him some money, he respects our cap. Works well for us. Good luck!
Thank you Tim for that link. It looks as though we are not the only one with an over bearing principal. We haven't even gotten to by-laws, boards or anything else. We have been doing lots of fundraisers to get a playground for the kids. All we have for them are balls, jumpropes and hulahopes(which the PTO purchased).
Does anyone have established by-laws that they are willing to share with us?
Our principal has been placing orders and issuing checks because we are just now getting our PTO started. We were part of a PTA with another school. Until we were legally seperated from that PTA the school opened a general account in the schools name. The principal said we had to open our own account after we get our own 501c stuff done (because we connot use the schools) then the money will be transferred to our account. After that she will not have any control of that. The entire PTO is new. I don't think that she really understands her role with the PTO. Hopefully these posts will help us all.
