Wow! Sounds like you folks are doing a terrific job!
Thank you so much for the sample survey . . . it's going to help a lot.
In recent years our PTO has been very exclusive. I've heard many comments about feeling unwelcome and unwanted. If you mentioned "PTO", you received a very negative response.
As the new prez this year, I'm doing all I can to turn this around . . . but it's a HUGE job. I'm interested in the parents/teachers' perception of the PTO now to try to guage if I'm headed in the right direction.
If meeting attendance is a good indicator, then I'm thinking we're doing pretty good. Last year, meeting attendance was basically the 4 officers and 1 or 2 parents.
So far this year, we had 30 at the first meeting and 27 at the second (2 officers out of town). I worry, though, that they are just there to "check out the new kid". I should be more optimistic and I will.
We did a survey last year to see how our membership and parents perceived how we were doing, how they felt about meetings, communcations and fundraisers. It was something I put together for our HSA needs. I would be glad to send it to you, you might want to incude questions that are important to your particular PTO.
It was well received since no other board had ever done this. We really wanted to know how we were perceived and also asked for suggestions. We got a lot of write in suggestions. We also wanted to let our parents and teachers and caregivers know that this wasn't an exclusive organization but an inclusive one. In the past, there was a lot of talk about how the previous boards did not reach out and include others. Our current board has addressed all the write in suggestions and we have made changes and done new things according to the survey. Of course, there will always be things that can't be changed just because we have "been there and done that" and know what has'nt worked in the past. Overall, the feedback we received has been most positive and the survey has generated a renewed interest among the parents and teachers. We have a lot more people stepping in and volunteering and coming forth to chair committees. Our October meeting had 41 people attending including both our elementary and middle school principals and our superintendant. We had teachers too......Last year we only had 26! We keep records in graph form of our attendance.
OK enough rambling.......the survey was a great success and generated a ripple effect for us..
Does anyone have a sample survey form available? I'm looking for something to find out what the parents/teachers expect from our PTO. How they currently perceive our group. What types of activities they would like to get involved in with the PTO, etc.
If anyone has ANYTHING like this, I sure would appreciate it!
