Thanks for the response. If I could get her to tell me what she wants that would be so much easier than trying to find a job for her.

It is nice to hear about other people feeling the same way that I do.

I guess you have to find out what she WANTS to do. As President, I don't have time for double and triple call backs... and meeting rescheduling. If my VP isn't there, then I carry on without her.

What's really bad is, the way our system is set up, she's slated to be the President next year (I'll be out of the District and at another school). Part of me hopes a light will dawn in her head and she'll realize she just can't do the job... and resign. That will create chaos for me this year, but I already know who'd be perfect for the job, the Secretary.

Some people step into jobs and they really don't have a clue what they're getting themselves into. If you can, you might want to chat with your Veep a bit and see if maybe this is the case.

I have a question. What do you do with a Vice President who tells you "Oh I will be available maybe after Monday". Then when I do things (I am the Pres) and don't include her (or forget to, cause I am to busy to have to call and beg her to do something) she makes small comments. She is not trusted with important jobs like Agenda's and acting as liason, but I need to give her something to do monthly. She was already Hospitality and doesn't want to do that anymore. Any suggestions? Thanks :(

As VP, I am an aide to the President, subsitute in her absense, I coordinate & oversee ALL standing Committees and am responsible for keeping a "handbook" of all policies, procedures, forms, etc. In addition, I am responsible for maintaining the PTO website. I also make sure that there is childcare for our meetings and work out any other "little details" as needed.

Although it seems to not be much when you say "Aide to the President," I talk with our President on a daily basis to help with establishing the monthly meeting agenda, and discuss any old/new issues that may arise. It requires more time than it would seem.

Our VP is in charge of membership/hospitality. He/She chairs the membership drive in the fall. He gives out door prizes at the parent group meetings. He co-ordinates cookies and coffee for the meeting. He gives out something special at the end of the school year for all those who joined the parent group. He also does something special during voluteer month in April.

As our By-Laws current read.... the VP serves as the Pres alter ego, supposely an apprentice for the next year and does the annual PTO tri-fold calendar that goes out in the summer mailing. That's it until spring, when annual committee reports start coming in in May. Lordy was I bored last year!

I have a proposal ready for our October meeting to change those responsibilities to include things like chairing the nominating committee for the following year (when the VP will be Pres). As VP last year, I had NO INPUT to this process, to include who was on the nominating committee and it was awful. You have to have people on your team who you can work with!

The flip side of this I'm actually living this year.... my VP hasn't a clue! She's NEVER been to a meeting (this is her 3rd year at the school), doesn't know the first thing about the PTO except for involvement in "social" things (she freely admits she's a party girl), and hasn't bothered to read the detailed VP report I gave her.... she has to be stepped thru every step of the process. In this case, serving as an apprentice under the Pres isn't such a bad idea. (though I think it very, very sad)
