Dear Ladies,

Thank You for those words of wisdom, I can say that the book written by Doris P. Zimmerman, Robert's Rules (In Plain English)
is a real eye opener. I am going to ask the President for a copy of the by-laws. I wish to thank you all again. (Kate, that is a real word, LOL, it means, Seconded: Coming next after the first in order, place, rank, time, or quality).

Hi Fatherof1 - if you don't have bylaws - then refer to the mentioned book at your library - Roberts Rules of Order. It has the nomination process in it. I believe more than one person can be nomitated. After the nomination has to be seconded. Is that a word?

Fatherof1 -

The only rules for that type of thing are what's in your own by-laws. If you don't have by-laws that address nominations, then you want to be very sure to keep things open.

If you don't have bylaws that address nominations, I'd also suggest that you work on some because nominations can be some of the trickiest things (meaning they can lead to conflict) so you want to have good rules you can follow and point to.

Dear Fatherof1:
Each year a flyer goes out to every students family listing the PTO Board positions. They ask for interested parties and then put out a ballot for the whole school community to vote on. There is a PTO President and a president-elect, the president elect will be the next years president. They have one whole year to learn the ropes under the current president. It works out great because you'll already know who will be the future president for the next years term. If any of the positions can't be filled right away at least you have a president and president-elect.
