VP with Criminal Record

15 years 8 months ago #148521 by gonesaleing
Get rid of her. You said this yourself "The criminal record is public, and it's only a matter of time before another concerned parent comes across the same information and points it out." If you don't take this on proactively, your board will look even more compromised when it's brought to light.

AlamoMom - I think your VP is my Prez's twin! At this point, my P has "fired" as a volunteer Treas. for noting accounting issues with the previous years' books; she says it's because she "doesn't like me". But because no one ever cared enough to pay attention to the lack of bylaws, corporate records, or written policies for our individual group, she can't get rid of me. If I didn't care about the group, the kids, and the school, I'd hand the books over to a third party for discovery and watch the walls tumble down... but I care too much, and I don't like bullies.

AlamoMom, sometimes it's lonely to be the one to bring up the "White Elephant", and some will point the finger because of your actions against "poor ___". Make sure your wording is never personal, but make the motion. You can always approach it with a sense of humor and compassion: "Okay folks, we all know that there has been talk about the situation at hand. Let's discuss it and come to some resolution." Then it's out there, regardless of whether they remove her from the account or not. At least you're on the record.

**I don't believe our by-laws dictate term limits**

Yikes.

Jewel,

I don't believe our by-laws dictate term limits, but I do know she has said she intends to come back full force next year. Whether or not she wins an elected office has yet to be determined, but with the current lack of nominees and general apathy all around, I'm fairly confident she has a good shot at a board position next year. It's sad to say, but it seems that within our school the main criteria for a PTO officer is just having a pulse. Good people skills just don't seem to matter. I'm sure there are some thicker-skinned people out there who can work with someone like that, and it is my hope they step up to help create a more open and inclusive PTO in the future.

AlamoCity -- I wouldn't want to work with someone with those annoying characteristics either, but unfortunately, even put together, all of her actions amount to someone who is really, really annoying as opposed to someone whose behavior provides sufficient grounds for calling for her resignation.

So, it just sounds like a "grin and bear it" time in your life. When does her term on the board end?

I'm with Jewel, as long as you have the "two signature" rule in place for checks, you should be safe and let this go.

It's not that you're wrong here, Alamo. I would be bothered by something like this too, but I don't think I would demand her resignation. I'd just want to make sure we weren't leaving the pocketbook open for her if the temptation should arise. Sometimes people make really bad decisions when they find themselves in desperate situations and that could be what happened to this parent. It certainly sounds like she has a lot of tough things going on in her life.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.
