Question: Can I use 1023ez
I am working on our 501c. Has anyone been able to use the 1023ez form? This question is throwing me off. We are registering as the PTO and if you answer yes to this question, then you have to complete the long form. Has anyone answered no since we are PTO and technically not the school? Are you a school, college, or university described in section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii)?

First question: Does your group bring in less than $50,000 a year? If so, you can take advantage of a really streamlined process the IRS now offers. You can do your application online. Go to this IRS link to get more information: https://www.irs.gov/uac/about-form-1023ez.
If you look at our most recent article on applying for 501(c) (3) status, you'll get more helpful information as well. Here's that link: http://www.ptotoday.com/blog/8219-good-news-for-ptos-irs-cuts-501-c-3-application-fee-to-275
Please stay in touch. We are happy to help!

We had just been approved non-profit by IRS. With the help of a professional company to guide us through the process, we used for 1023EZ to submit application online. Rose C (above comment) is right..as long as your PTO brings in less then 50K per annum, your best bet as a PTO is Form 1023EZ. Good luck!
