Question: President Retiring Gracefully...
I am the founder of our PTO and have been the driving force of the organization. It will be my son's last year next year at the elementary level and it is time for me to pass the gavel. I am ready to let go, not be a thorn in the side, or flee the scene (I couldn't say that last year). Next year I want to be a resource on call, continue to attend meetings, and be a parent for my last year. I was wondering if anyone has written a "thank you for the honor" letter, letting parents know you are stepping down but will continue to support the new board?

mum24kids writes:If you have a regular newsletter for which you write a column each month (or whenever it comes out), you could add a sentence or two to that. In the last one for the year, you could write something like "I've been privileged to be able to serve as President for the last xxx years, and am looking forward to helping Susie Sunshine take over in her new role. Please join me in supporting her as President." A whole letter seems to be a bit overkill, given that supporting the new board is what you would be expected to do anyway.
