Question: New PTO - who can vote?
We have established a new pto and in our bylaws it states that all members within good standing are eligible to vote. We have not started our membership drive yet and at our first meeting we voted on some issues, everyone was allowed to vote. IS that a true vote?

Craig writes:I think letting everybody vote who is interested enough to attend your first few meeting is a reasonable accommodation and a good way to encourage participation. Robert's Rules allows for organizational meetings to get a group up and running. At those meetings, everybody who attends is allowed to vote. This sounds like an extension of the same idea -- you haven't had an opportunity to create a membership list yet, but the people who are attending are your likely members so you want their input on decisions.
