Question: Board Member left the building

After elections last May our new secretary was relocated to another school and had to give up her position. How do we hold an election at our first PTO meeting? We have one person already willing to take over the position. Do we have to hold a formal election process?

Check your bylaws. Ours allow the remaining members of the board to appoint someone to serve the remainder of the term. If your bylaws don't account for this, you may wish to include notice of this on your meeting reminder and ask the membership to approve the board's appointee at your next meeting. Hope this helps!
