Question: Old President - now advisor
Does anyone have any information on the roll of the outgoing president, now serving as an adviser? Are there any guidelines regarding this position? What meetings do they attend? Are they there just for advice when asked? I really need some help!!

The best thing you can do is make sure your successor is well briefed on anything she needs to know in order to do the job. Make sure she has a copy of the bylaws, the membership roster, financial/budget information, etc. Share your wisdom with her up front, then let her know you're available to help but that you won't initiate things so you don't step on her toes. The article How To Retire Gracefully goes into the do's and don'ts of being a great past president.
