It depends on your bylaws. Some groups require that nominations be submitted in advance. But it's typical to allow nominations from the floor—in other words, to allow people to be nominated on the night of the election—and I can't think of a good reason why this wouldn't be standard practice. The more people who are willing to hold office, the stronger your group will be. But if you prevent them even from running, your group risks getting the dreaded "clique" label. Instead, let the voters decide and trust that they'll make the best decision.
