Question: Principal lacking "PRINCPLES"

How do you get the message across to a principal who thinks they are acting "PROFESSIONAL", however has no people skills when it comes to parents.. She is either overkill fake nice, or you could be a worthless fly on the wall rude. I am very involved, and volunteer a lot, however I am on the way out the door soon if she cannot "BE NICE"

Honestly, there are only two ways to handle people like this. 1) have someone speak up and put her in her place who is not afraid to say something. Let her know that cannot treat her volunteers any kind of way and her behavior is unacceptable. 2) write a letter to the school board explaining her behavior at length and have people sign it who can attest to such incidents and ask them to do something about her. I wouldn't allow one person to drive me away from somewhere when I know that I'm doing a good job.

I agree with lhardwick, please don't let a person with no people skills deprive the students at your school of your expertise and time. It amazes me how many "professionals" behave as though they were never taught manners or have any tact. I am also very involved and I'm usually the only PTA/Board member in sight. I have tried to make my activities focus on the students and teachers ONLY and things that do not necessitate approval from these difficult people.

I am crying as I read this because we had a woman just like this--phony pillar of the community, let certain parents take control, treated others like crap. She chose to leave after 9 mos to take care of her grandkids, but then regretted it. She tried to get the new principal fired for TWO years with her favorite bully parents and teachers, promising one and all if he was gone, she'd come back. They made life so hard for this person that he finally started to lose his ability to fight back and his contract was not renewed. These bullies serve on a board with me and my voice has been silenced. The pastor is new and runs hot and cold. No guarantees this woman will come back. But my heart is broken for the kids and families who don't have an agenda because this outgoing principal was everything this supposed "pillar of the community" wasn't---objective, fair, loved all the kids--not just the ones who were offspring of his favorite parents. He gave everyone the benefit of the doubt, including those whom he knew didn't care for him, but gave them the chance to rise above it--instead they stuck a knife in his back. I don't even know what recourse any one has. . .I'm so scared.
