Question: What is our job as teachers?

Our principal required that we (teachers) teach math strategies and language arts strategies to the parents during an after school PTO meeting. Is this part of our job as PTO representatives?

Kind of a tough question. Is yours a public or private school? What's your teacher contract say? It's certainly not typical that teachers are required to do those things. And they're not typical responsibilities of a teacher rep to a PTO or PTA. That said, that kind of instruction and connection to parents is great. The research on what that kind of parent-focused attention can do for the kids is powerful stuff. I guess what I'm saying is: surprised it's required, but glad you're doing it. Tim
