typically, parents run the pto, but many groups have teachers on their boards and as chairs. at my school, we do not, although teachers do come to the meetings.maybe this new teacher is coming across strong as a result of enthusiasm. if she is newly hired, she may be very excited to participate. try meeting with her or at the very least a phone call to find out what she hopes to contribute to the group and/or meetings. once you get a better idea of where she's coming from, you can find a way to put her enthusiasm and freshness to the best use.

No, the teachers are not there to run the PTO. they are there to let you know of events and projects that are going on at the school. The school is asking the PTO for asssistants for there students. Please, dont let the teachers take over... You can have a conference with the teachers, so the PTO and the school staff can understand where each others it trying to do for the school. Have a great day...

I am a new co-president and have teachers and administration involved in the PTO, but I understand why. The school is fairly new, and the PTO is not as organized as it should be: the teachers and administrators are acting in the best interest of our children and the PTO, until like-minded parents are organized. Maybe this is the case in your school. I have received a lot of valuable information from this site and will, slowly, suggest changes that will require less teacher and administration involvement.
