McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, Concord, N.H.
This museum is dedicated to helping people explore astronomy, aviation, and earth and space science. It is named for two heroes: Alan Shepard, who, in 1961, became the first American in space, and Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher. McAuliffe died along with several crew members in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. The facility has a planetarium with shows about the moon, space travel, and black holes. It has exhibits on rockets, space shuttles, and jets, and special exhibits on Shepard and McAuliffe. View More Slideshows |
