I was hoping to start a "trash free lunch" day once a month at school to demonstrate the difference in garbage generated. Hopefully, the difference would be really vivid, and we could move it up to once a week, and more often!
Our school is collecting trash (drink pouches, chip bags, candy wrappers) and sending them to Terracycle. We get .02 for each item. Last year we collected over 10,000 items!
Our school became a Green Star school last year through Eco Cycle. We now compost and recycle. We have reduced waste considerably, especially at lunch. We did hold a Green Night last year and have had several other events through the year. We also have a Garden to Table program that plays into curriculum including the 4th graders selling the produce at the local Farmers market in the fall. I look forward to seeing our school become even greener next year.
Well I am excited that our Booster Club has found a company that has green products for your homes. We save money - and it is an AMAZING product. The best part is - our Booster Club is getting 5% of our orders directly to them.
It is so cool. It works like this - your Non-for-Profit enrolls - Then anybody that decides to shop with the company 5% of what they purchase monthly goes to the club. No hidden agenda! There is no stocking or selling or unloadiing checks. It is awesome! It's like Market Day for our consumable necessities.
Email me if you want more info on how to do this. I think EVERYONE could benefit from it.
Nothing like answering your own questions, huh? I just wanted to jump in and say if your group has NOT done any green initiatives yet but wants to be more green here a few articles to help you get started:
