We hosted a fundraiser last June 2013 and our grand prize was the $600 gift certificate from Sunset World Gives Back. We purchased the airfare for the winner. She and her daughter went in January 2014 and had a wonderful time and said they'd encourage anyone to go on this trip. So we requested and received another $600 certificate for this year's fundraiser. I am in no way connected to this company and you can contact me through our fundraiser website for more questions.
I received the certificate too. I looked all over the internet for information because I am afraid to rip anyone off. We are raffling ours off. I read ripoff reports about the time share part of Sunset World. IMO, ALL time shares are a ripoff. It works for a very small group of people. The charity part of Sunset World is legit. I called them to make sure this wasn't one of those things where you get a free vacation but have to listen to a two day presentation on time shares. She assured me it was not. I asked if our PTO could pay the taxes and reservation fee and she said yes. She explained that they do this often, mostly for schools to raise money. I checked out the Ocean Spa and Layuna Suites hotels on Trip Advisor. Out of 594 pictures, two said it was horrible. One reason for rating it so poorly was that he had a rip in his blanket if about an inch long. I think we are going with it. We are going to be VERY clear that this is for accomodations only but let them know that they can upgrade. Actually, i may just see how much it costs to upgrade. This is a Raffle after all so we are going to make a lot more off of it than an auction. When our people win, i will post reviews. I figure when you pay $1 a ticket and get a vacation, that's a pretty good deal.
Hi Jennifer,
It will probably help if we bump this over to our Ultimate Donation List thread, which is a very active thread and someone there may have some information for you. In the meantime, have you googled the company to get information about it? Also, you can try the Better Business Bureau to see what it has on this company.
