One thing that I have found useful (besides this thread which is awesome) I go through my Metro Parent magazine page by page and anything that looks interesting I contact. So far I have gotten 2 great birthday parties. I also go through my weekly Play (comes in my newspaper weekly) magazine for new resturants and events coming up in town. I also carry forms with me and anywhere I stop I ask. we are a little school but working on a great auction
Barbara...if you take a look in the posts I have done showing donations...you will find some in So Cal...I live out by Palm Springs, but have been hitting up alot of OC, San Diego, LA places.
Thanks for the information. This type of information really helps us newbies to the fundraising world. Our event is not until May of 2012 but we are starting now due to holidays coming up and the winter weather coming too. We are going to solicit as a group, picking days to go out locally and maybe pair off and work together. I think we will do some in October and then some other areas in February. but again this depends upon the weather and what my team will want to do. When I came up with the idea of going out as a group, everyone so far has been excited to work this way. I think it helps us feel a little less lonely trying to get ppl to donate. We shall see how it goes!
To Lisa - there are 3 of us. We have been collecting about 3 months. We do it each year. And we DO ask the mom & pops - we just don't rely on that. We live in a small community. Local comps can only do so much. We have everything from Disney passes to local restaurant gift certificates to Cuisinart appliances. Just stick with it. My first year, we asked for 500 donations and only got about 80.
