For ours, we were set for December 16th, today - but the snow has begun! So we are moving it to next year, during . Like most of our events - this is a contest with the students to see who can get the most parents to attend - we want and need our parents to be present!
We have 2 confirmed guest readers, and our model will include several smaller audiences. In this model, we have a general opening, and then our audience breaks out into smaller groups that rotate to the guest readers and the activities.
Our estimated time slot is ninety minutes, and this is perfect for a Family Reading Night. If we need extra time, we can stretch it to two hours. Any longer will keep families out too late, especially on a school night. We will need to use the auditorium for a book swap to help parents and students clear out older/gently used books, to make space for new ones over the holiday.

Have you volunteered to organize the Reading Night? Perhaps your PTO leaders fell overwhelmed with the activities they already organize. They may like your idea but not the idea of planning another activity! Order the kit from PTO today and go for it!
I have been trying to get our local ptso to have a reading night or story time and I am getting no where any suggestions...I am just a parent but I think that it is a great idea
We love Scholastic. It works well for us...we are a fairly small pre-school and our rep is very good and helpful. They have so many tools to offer you.
We are considering doing their One For Books program, which helps books via loose change collected during the fair. it's a good way to give back to the community.
We're able to borrow a costume for a surprise visit for the family night. We're getting Clifford! just need to find someone to fill it!
it's a shame the rep you mentioned isn't good. that certainly makes things harder for you when you need help. Maybe you can call the home office and see if they can help you.
