Have you checked to see if the school has a website and has the parent group contact info listed there? If not, a friendly phone call to the school/principal letting them know you'd like to help sounds like the way to go. Is it possible that they don't have a parent group? Let us know how you make out so we can help. In the meantime, here a few helpful articles:
Wait one more week and if you haven't heard from the President by then, call her to offer your time.
And, consider that your large school experience may be difficult to transfer to this small, rural school. Before firing off a lot of suggestions that could be off-mark, attend a couple board meeetings to learn about this particular board, it's goals, and the limits placed on it by the district.
The PTO at the school which my children attend is not promoting parent involvment. No Back2School booth no flyer sent home with kids. I sent a letter to the school to be put in the PTO President's mailbox, one week ago. This letter indicated my interest in becoming involved in PTO & my phone number. I have not heard from the President or any member of the PTO. The school is a very small southern school in a rurual area & has limited funds for most "things" educational. My children have attended schools in large cities and in different area of the US. Based on my involvement with these schools, I feel I could offer something to this school's PTO. Please help me break thru this wall. Thanks!!!
