I am also a new pto president taking over for someone who was a do it there self person so when people offered there service she done it with out them, so the PTO was going to nothing so I have called and had a shirt made saying Pto president so when there is a school function I wear my shirt so now people know we have a new pres. So far everything has went good an a lot of parents are getting back involved. So good luck.

If you have bylaws--that's your rule book. If not then you should look around for a set that matches your groups philosophy and build a set of your own. There are some on this site and some on PTO sites...and then Roberts Rules is the primary book most of us run our meetings by etc...and is available in libraries/bookstores.

Ha Misty--that's a pretty open ended question. Probably the first step is your principal to see what his/her expectations are of your organization and what goals you'd like to establish for your group. Then there's a lot more information needed like how healthy is the group? Do you have examples to follow? Are you looking to expand anywhere...

I always sign my name, and add PTO Leader (as we do not have a President or other officers).

I also include at the very bottom of all papers going home our website address.
