I got up to 1060 couldn't stay on longer, but I love those things. I always do the one in the Readers Digest.

I just go in whenever I have a few free minutes and get to 100, 200 - whatever. I don't think I've gone past 500, so I don't know if there's an upper limit.

I wondered how the word generator would respond to middle school kids (with a lower vocabulary) so I deliberately missed the first few. Once I did that, it seemed to keep the word level at 10-12.

When I play as myself, it hovers 38-42, so it seems to respond appropriately.

I got wiped out at 280, that's about a bowl of rice when cooked, eh? This is a great site, thanks for the heads up, JHB.

Yeah! I made it to 340 grains of rice. I'll be passing this on to our elementary and middle school email groups. Might be a fun activity for parents and kids to do together.

Thanks, JHB!

I stumbled across a site recently and wanted to share with all of you.

FreeRice

It's a philanthropic site designed to enhance your vocabulary. It lists a word and 4 possible meanings for you to guess. Each time you guess correctly, 10 grains of rice are added to your pot. Whatever your total - it is donated to communities in need.

I've been trying to spend a few minutes a day. Helps polish my vocabulary and helps hungry people, so a win-win in my book.

I'm not sure it would work for younger kids (maybe), but definitely middle-school or high school, as well as adults. The word generator gives progressively harder words.

The site is funded by ads, but it's pretty tastefully done.

I'd love to hear your comments.
