Cherry post in their lunchroom a list of all dates for your groups events and in BIG letters list the teacher appreciation week as well as the one for volunteers. Remember to include it on your newsletter and mention at a meeting about 1 month in advance too. Oh and dont forget to mention during teacher week that you cant wait to see what the teachers do for the volunteers. LOL
We had a Volunteer Tea the last day of school. The thought was nice but we were given school pins that are broke and ribbons we have also got the past 2 years. And there was no tea!! LOL There was punch and cake but thats about it. OK the thought was nice- I wish there had been more thought in it.
Our school has NEVER had a PTO or Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. We have done a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, why exactly I am not sure...but I think for next year I am going to organize a volunteer apprecaition luncheon for everyone who will help thoroughout the year! Hmmm, how do I get the word out to the teachers for hosting a PTO luncheon for US?! LOL
I really miss those luncheons. It was up to the PTO to do something like that. I think it is fun for the moms (and dads too) to be able to get together and just enjoy each others company.
Though I've done less this year than ever I did receive an awesome tee and some cute little gifts. They were presented at the weekly Success Celebration but due to short notice I was unable to attend so it was sent home with my son.
Well this was my first year on the board and first year as a room mom I put in a lot of hard work & truly enjoyed every minute of it, even though I spent a lot of time in frustration over parent participation and shoot even our own boards participation. I was elected as President for next year and did a lot of recruiting for my board next year & think I've got a great group, sorry that is besides the point.
I know we all often wonder if we are appreciated as volunteers. I've even seen a couple of threads about volunteer appreciation. I just left a very nice little luncheon held in our school's library, hosted by the teachers & staff of our school. The school gave each board member a very nice little gift, it was a notepad w/a pen & then a dry erase board w/marker w/a nice saying about volunteers and a cute key chain that went along w/the other two. Also my sons teacher gave me some flowers and a really pretty beaded "necklace" to hang my PTO badge on around my neck while I'm in the school. These gifts and luncheon were very inexpensive but very thoughtfull and made me feel so appreciated as a volunteer. Thanks Timbers...
I hope all of your schools will take the time to do something for all of you. I feel so fortunate after reading all of the horror stories so many of you have w/your schools.
